Brief description

Orange cover hardback fiction book: The Scholarship and Margery, by Winifred Darch. Oxford University Press, 1938. Cover has title printed in black, with author's name in yellow. illustration on the front of the heads and shoulders of two girls, with a letter in between them. Spine has title and author printed in black with a black figure and two small children. 95 printed pages. One colour illustration on first page, entitled 'Margery stood clutching the fibre attache case (Pg 39). Back cover is yellow, with a central motif in blue with OXFORD BOOKS printed underneath. Winifred Darch (1884-1960) was born in Brighton. She wrote many novels, mainly for girls from 1906 - 1935. She worked as a teacher and housemistress at The High School for Girls, Loughton. The building is now Roding Valley School.
